ALEXANDER T. OLEKSYN

Alexander is a Euro-American artist based in Shanghai, China. Engaging with the tradition of abstract painting, his work is driven by the thrill of discovery that occurs during the creative process.

His most recent work investigates the possibilities in using collaboration as a tool to achieve his objective of creating an intriguing and unexpected image.

In his most recent project named “El Dorado”, Alexander set up his studio in a bazaar in Shanghai where he spent his time inviting passers-by to draw freely on his artworks. Using their contributions as inspiration for his ensuing mark making, he repeated this process on a daily basis for over two weeks. This back-and-forth spurred the compositions in ways the artist could not have achieved working independently. What ensued were both a conversation as well as an expansion of the artist’s visual vocabulary.

Alexander T. Oleksyn received his Bachelor of Fine Art from the Tyler School of Art, Temple University in 2004 and his Master of Fine Art from the Glasgow School of Art in 2012. He has exhibited in the United States, Europe and Asia.
